Edgy Black and Luscious Purple

Every woman has various sides to her – a sweet girl, elegant lady, rocker chick… Sometimes these traits are hidden, sometimes they come out to play. Sometimes you show your other “selves” to the world and sometimes you are the only one seeing them. Women are mysterious creatures and most of us like to shake things up now and then and surprise people around us. Clothes are a great, maybe the best, way to make you feel comfortable in your own skin or experiment with new things. Whatever the case may be, it’s important to keep it balanced. Any outfit can look stylish as long as you don’t overdo it. Always remember Coco Chanel, who said: “Fashion is architecture. It is a matter of proportions.

Special thanks to Yuliya Ryvkina Photography for capturing the mood so perfectly!

Have a stylish weekend!

Turquoise Summer Day

Summer feels so GOOD! And the best color for the summer is definitely turquoise :).  This color is associated with freshness, love, joy, and femininity. It’s not quite blue and not quite green. The dress I’m wearing is not a splurge but the color gives it this perfect summer vibe. Paired with brown suede sandals with a chunky heel it’s a great and easy look for either day or night.

Enjoy your summer!!!!

Floral patterns at work

I noticed that whenever I receive a compliment on an outfit, it is mostly when I’m wearing something unexpected. People, in general, notice things that are outside of their perception of “normality”. The same reason why everyone notices a red dress at a party – it is bright and shakes up your senses.

Same works for unexpected patterns or even clothes worn outside of their intended venue. Now, you have to be extra careful with that because a ballroom gown in the grocery store will definitely draw attention but it’s also guaranteed to get you a lot of weird glances. Playing the “slightly off” game, however, could be super-fun and grant you the right kinds of “whoa”.

Floral patterns are slowly making an entrance into the corporate world. But majority of women still reserve flowery dresses for a more casual weekend wear. The olive dress I found recently successfully breaches this gap, in my opinion. The color is neutral enough without being boring, and it could easily be paired with almost any color jacket. I, obviously, go with the bright choice 🙂

Have a colorful week everyone!

Top Five Favorite Pink Lipsticks

lips

Pink is a new red! Every girls needs to have a perfect pink lipstick, whether it’s your lips but better pink, Barbie pink, or bright fuchsia shiny color. Below are some of my favorites:

1. Givenchy Le Rouge Couture Edition, in shade N205 – this lipstick is a work of art in its couture-inspired floral print leather case. Formula is very rich, moisturizing semi-matte. The color is a vibrant shade of fuchsia so perfect for summer. Beautiful case can be used with any other Givenchy Le Rouge lipstick.

2. Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in shade 138 Fougueuse. The formula is hydrating and long wearing with satin finish. It’s really quite comfortable and has a variety of great shades (I own 6 colors in this formula (guilty smile)). Color is bright pink with cool undertones, not quite Barbie color, more like every day brightening shade –very much Chanel.

3. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Shine Lipstick in shade 6-Pink in Devotion. Formula is extremely comfortable, buttery soft, and moisturizing. It has glossy finish and basically a lipstick and lip gloss in one. Color is described as bright hibiscus pink, it’s bright but very flattering pink on variety of skin tones.

4. Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy in shade 4-Succulent Pomegranate. The formula is very close to lip balm with glossy finish. Color is sheer bright pink with red undertones. It’s a great option for people who are afraid of color as its very sheet and only gives a hint of brightness.

5. Yves Saint Laurent Volupte Sheer Candy in shade 15-Rose Candy. Same formula as above. Color is medium sheer pink, sort of your lips but better color with a bit of youthful pinkness.

A Bit of New York…

Few weeks ago I went to New York city. The city has so much energy and it really never sleeps. I don’t think I would want to live here but it’s an awesome city to visit with endless things to do. Art galleries, shopping, busy streets, people watching, great food-it really has it all.

Double Vision in Green

An idea of writing a double-look post featuring the same article of clothing worn two ways came about approximately the same time we decided to start this blog. But it never quite materialized into anything until Elena and I went shopping and saw green skirt at H&M that both of us fell in love with. The vibrancy of the color and a fun playful style seemed like a winning combination neither one of us could resist.

The Minimalist

I am a big fan of a simple look that consists of basic but exceptional quality pieces. There is something very sophisticated and elegant in the combinations of navy and cream, black and white, dark grey and light grey. The look of a white t-shirt and black blazer, trouser suit and silky ivory top, high waist black skirt and cream blouse are the combinations that work year after year and never get old.

Is Blue On Your Grid?

Bright blue hues are my weakness. Royal blue, cerulean blue, cornflower and steel blue – I think I have them all in my wardrobe. My very first painting purchase has been of something blue and surreal (I was 16 or 17 at a time so don’t hold it against me). And even though I filled my closet with a variety of other colors over the years, I am still partial to blue – the fact that an entire shelf of blue shoes will confirm.

This blue butterfly silk top is a recent purchase from one of the flash sale sites. When it comes to embracing bright colors, there’s hardly a better way to let them stand out than pairing them with a monochrome piece. My white checkered skirt is a true veteran of my closet but I found some alternate options (suggestions below).

Sunday Breakfast

When I see that weekend weather is windy and cold I immediately want to crawl under my blanket and sleep all day. This Sunday, however, I decided to go to my favorite breakfast place instead. This place called L’Eiffel Bistrot and Creperie has the most delicious crepes and coffee.  It’s as cozy as can get with french influenced art work, great music, and authentic french cuisine. Every time I eat there it sets the mood for the entire day. My Sunday outfit was a very simple combination of navy, beige, and polka dots.

Five ways to wear a military vest

I am a huge fan of layering pieces. Any outfit, in my opinion, looks more sophisticated and put together when multiple layers come into play. Think of a white t-shirt, for example… it’s nice and crisp but it looks plain on its own. Try layering it with a blazer or a vest and you have yourself a fashion outfit (plus or minus various accessories and awesome shoes). Speaking of vests – they are some of the most versatile pieces of any wardrobe. They provide layering flexibility on warmer days when a jacket or a blazer may be too warm to wear.

Recently I found a great military vest that I’ve already worn on multiple occasions. It has all the attributes of a perfect layering gem – it’s neutral in color, made of natural quality fibers (cotton with a tiny addition of spandex), features a cinched waste that gives it a flattering shape, and it fits just below the hip for the effortless but elegant look. With this vest, the outfit combinations are infinite and here are 5 to get your started:

1. In the Office

The trick is not to go completely “blah” with any neutral clothing and especially when it serves as a top layer. A longer vest, like this one, with nothing to pop underneath will completely consume your outfit, so go with brighter colors. Plus, colors are always fun! 🙂 I paired the vest with a pinky-purplish skirt and a mint silky blouse for a more feminine look.
